What is the Medford Rum Punch?

This cocktail comes from the great Jerry Thomas, around the year 1887. It was in one of the editions of How to Mix Drinks by him.

The relevance of the famous Boston rum, Medford rum (from Medford) was all the rage in that particular time period.

Any full-bodied rum (like Jamaican or Barbados rum) can do the trick for this one.

RECIPE

1oz (30mL) Medford rum (or full-bodied rum)

1oz (30mL) medium-bodied rum

1 teaspoon lemon juice

1 orange slice, cut into quarters

Place all ingredients into a shaker and shake for 15 seconds, vigorously. Strain into a rocks glass with ice. Serve with a straw.

Garnish: seasonal berries and lime wedge
