This is another one of my favorite gin cocktails. This one consists of mint syrup and lime juice to create a beautiful blend of aromatics with the juniper and herb notes from the gin.
HISTORY
The story of the Southside is proposed as coming from Al Capone’s dealings in Chicago. His rivals in the North side of Chicago imported gin that was palatable and could be easily drunk with ginger ale. Whereas Al Capone’s gin was rougher around the edges so it required more sweetness to become more palatable.
RECIPE
2oz (60mL) London dry gin
0.75oz (22mL) lime juice
0.75oz (22mL) mint simple syrup (2:1 ratio)
Shake all ingredients in a shaker with ice for 15 seconds. Fine strain into a chilled coupe glass.
